Poster and website reimagined
The goal is to choose one of many events and redesign a poster and, later, a website that carry the themes of the festival. For this particular project, my choice was Lollapalooza, a Chicago-based music festival. The event is known to be vibrant and energetic. Hence, the poster should reflect the same vibe and succeed in delivering it to the board audience. The website should also carry the same theme as the poster, except it should be legible and informative enough for web format.
Process.
I started with a lot of sketches and thumbnails to get a better sense of the layout. I thought of gorillas with vibrant colors, trying to grab the Lollapalooza title. This was to convey a tropical feel to the event. Although the layout appeared as shown, the final outcome was significantly adjusted to fit my initial purpose for the project.
After sketching a lot of layout and failed trials, I decided to go with a space theme for the project. I started to get on with designing characters, while looking for inspirations. I was heavily influenced by the style of Rick and Morty in this poster. The two characters shown here are the main ones. With the pink monkey representing those from Earth, while the blue alien represent the lives from outter space. I started sketching the two characters on paper and decided to trace them back on Illustrator.
The Solution.
The project ended up with a poster in sci-fi style with a clumsy bunch of characters interacting to each other. The colors used are vibrant and meant to capture the energy of the festival .The information is put in a separate box and colored in yellow and white to stand out on the blue background. The setting is on Moon, when 2 characters ( The Alien and The Gorilla) are stuck there, not knowing Lollapalooza is supposed to be on Earth. An astronaut flies by and notifies the two about the said fact.
Website.
For the website, I began with a lot of sketches of wireframes and a map of how users would experience website. I also redesigned the characters a little bit so user-experience would flow better. The lines on the characters, as well as the typeface turn out too thin, hence, I got rid of the lines and tweaked the typeface a little bit.
The final outcome is a website with information about tickets, merchandise and contact information of Lollapalooza. Users will be led step-by-step to payment and merchandise pages, where to book tickets and how to accommodate themselves during the festival.
